"This project excels on many fronts, from its integration of the existing bungalow to the impeccably executed detailing, but what stood out to me was the precision-like sensitivity to the site. The existing oak trees, which would have been viewed as impediments by many designers on such a small urban lot, were treated as masterpieces in their own outdoor galleries; an organic contrast to the impressive art on display in the walls within the home.
The cantilevered floor slabs hover over the grade plane allowing the addition to rest comfortably above the tree’s root zone. Viewing only interior photos, one might assume the home is sited on a rural forested lot rather than an urban neighborhood in the heart of one of Texas largest cities."
